Perceived Psychological stress and its relation to the motivation to achievement and academic adjustment among a sample of university students.
Abstract:
The aims of the current research is to: recognize the levels of perceived psychological stress, motivation of achievement and academic adjustment among university students, identify the interrelationships between perceived psychological stress and achievement motivation and academic adjustment, reveal the relative contribution of both perceived psychological stress and motivation to achievement in predicting academic adjustment. The study sample consisted of two samples: a sample of (45) students and a basic sample of (150) students from the University of Jeddah, representing(28.8%) of the original community Of specializations (special education, techniques of education, physical education, Quranic studies) in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh levels Their average age was(21.52) and a standard deviation (1.41). The tools of the research included: perceived psychological stress scale (prepared by the researcher), motivation achievement scale (prepared by Azmi 2013), and academic adjustment scale for university students (Prepared by Adili 2016). The results of the study were a low level of perceived psychological stress, a high level of achievement motivation, and high level of academic adjustment in the research sample. The results of the study also showed a significance negative correlation between perceived psychological stress and the motivation of achievement, the existence of a significance negative correlation between the psychological pressures and academic adjustment. The results of the study indicated that there was a significant contribution to both the perceived psychological stress and the motivation of achievement in predicting the academic adjustment of the university students.
