The Effectiveness of Counselling Preventive Program for Adequate Knowledge of Disability to prevent it by the Palestinian Women
Abstract:
The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of comprehensive counselling preventive program for adequate knowledge of disability to prevent it by the Palestinian woman. The study has been applied on field training students of Faculty of Social Development of Al-Quds Open University in Jericho and Valleys Governorate of the academic year 2017-2018, and the sample consisted of 70 students (male, female).
The researcher used the semi-experimental approach with before-and-after experimental design. An intentional sample of 40 students – which was registered on field training course – and was distributed into two groups one is a control group and the other is experimental, each group was consisted of 20 female students. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, the adequate knowledge questionnaire and counselling program made by the researcher were handed out. The credibility and stability of the tools were verified in an appropriate ways.
The study found the following results; there are statistically significant differences in knowledge adequacy in the case group attributable to the counselling program and to the benefit of the after experimental design, duo to the construction program for the posttest favor the means of the experimental group reached (10.75). Meanwhile the control group means reached (80.95).
There are no statistically significant difference regarding the social status – either single or married – whereas duo to experimental group was (0.803) and the control group was (0.895) that means the social status does not effect on cognitive competence. In addition, there are no statistically significant difference between the mean of both case and control regarding the effectiveness of the knowledge adequacy program attributable to the interaction between the group and the social status in the after experimental design, and the level of significance =(0.953).
The results also indicate that there are statistically significant differences for the case group from the minimal limit required for knowledge (93), where the mean for the adequacy of knowledge in the case group was (105.57) and in percentage (85.3%), attributable for receiving the counselling program, note that the minimum amount of adequacy of knowledge is (75%).
In order to know the degree of influence resulted from the application of the counselling program, the researcher used ETA squared scale (η2), where the effect of the independent factor on the dependent factor was large, because the (d) value reached (2.07), which is bigger than (0.8).
The study recommended the importance of hiring and using the comprehensive counselling preventive program that was used in this study in order to achieve adequate knowledge of disability in Palestinian women – either single or married – and to work on spreading it to benefit from its results.
