Identifying Cohesive Skills in “My Beautiful Language Series” for the Upper Elementary Stage: An Analytical Descriptive Study
Abstract
The study aimed to identifying cohesive skills in the reading texts in “My Beautiful Language Series”, its relative weight and the percentage of the number of drills and questions dedicated for each cohesive skill in the reading text- reference cohesion, cohesion by conjunction and lexical cohesion.
The study concluded that the fourth grade book includes (836 skills), the fifth grade book includes (1282) skills and the sixth grade book includes (1598) skills. The frequency of the reference cohesion skill was (1963), cohesion by conjunction was (892), ellipsis cohesion was (526) and lexical cohesion was (342). The study recommended that training students on these skills should be gradual and should include a variety of skills. The study also recommended fair distribution among the skills and the number of drills and questions in the series. This will definitely achieve better learning for students.
