Verbal violence against adolescent students A field study applied to a sample of post-primary education students in Muscat Governorate schools – Sultanate of Oman –
ABSTRACT
The current study is one of the descriptive studies that dealt with the issue of verbal violence practiced by parents and teachers towards adolescents of grades 11 and 12 in post-primary education in the Sultanate of Oman. The study aimed to identify the level of verbal violence practiced by parents and teachers, As well as defining the role of some of the independent variables in the events of moral statistical differences in the practice of this type of violence. The study was applied to a sample of (male and female) numbered 145 students. The study was based on a scale to measure the verbal violence that included verbal violence practiced by parents as well as practice by teachers; the study found high levels of verbal violence practiced against students with a high degree by parents and teachers, The results also confirmed that the variable type did not make a moral difference in the practice of violence, While other independent variables have a moral role in producing statistical differences with moral significance as a variable: the practical situation of the parent – the educational level of the parent – the achievement level of the adolescent students. In the end, the study recommended several recommendations, the most important of which were the responsible authorities designs awareness programs addressed to both parents and teachers in order to reduce the levels of verbal violence against adolescent male and female students.
